New Zealand designer Kate Sylvester’s conceptual collections embody intelligence, witty irreverence, sophistication and modern femininity.
Ever the subtle subversive, Kate Sylvester plays off disparate references, seamlessly stitching sportswear with couture, menswear with womenswear, pop culture with history, high art with punk rock. Her resulting collections are at once eccentric, beautiful and intelligent. Each collection challenges nostalgic sensibilities with modern use of colour, cut and exclusive in-house prints.
Kate Sylvester has always loved clothes. She believes the true value of clothing is in its design, how is was made and how long it will last.
Consumer habits fueled by the exploitation of cheap labour markets have diminished the true value of clothing and led the industry down an unsustainable path.
As conscious consumers, we decided it was important to do something about this and support the industry that we love. In 2007, we adopted an environmentally sustainable business policy committed to supporting our local garment production industry by producing locally made, high quality garments and products that are made to last, with premium materials and a modern yet timeless aesthetic.
When local manufacture is not possible we work closely with hand-picked factories off shore ensuring a transparency in our supply chain. From 2015 Kate Sylvester has been an ambassador for the Child Labor Free initiative and we are proud to be accredited as Child Labor Free at a manufacturing level.
Kate Sylvester is a member of the Sustainable Business Network and in 2008 received the New Zealand Emerging Small and Medium business award.
We here at Kate Sylvester are proud to be conscious producers of fashion taking a mindful, considered approach to our garment production and business practice.
Thank you for believing in what we do.
